A high protein breakfast reduces hunger and boosts weight loss
As reported in the Daily Mail on 15th November, a new study has shown that you can reduce your hunger pangs while losing weight by eating more protein for breakfast.
Researchers discovered that you can suppress your hunger by starting your day with a meal high in protein rather than carbohydrates such as cereal or fibre-rich fruit. The result: you eat less during the rest of the day and boost your weight loss.
The study, conducted at the University of Missouri on a group of women aged 18 to 55, revealed that eating around 35g of protein for breakfast suppressed hunger.
“Eating a breakfast rich in protein significantly improves appetite control and may help women to avoid overeating later in the day,” explained research scientist Dr. Kevin Maki.
“These results demonstrate that commercially prepared convenient protein-rich meals can help women feel full until lunch time and potentially avoid overeating and improve diet quality,” added Dr. Heather Leidy, an assistant professor specialising in appetite control.
