Milk Oolong is a distinctive variety of oolong tea known for its naturally creamy, buttery flavour and smooth, floral aroma. The name "Milk Oolong" refers to the tea’s taste and aroma, not because it contains milk, but because of its milky smoothness and rich texture.
Originating primarily from Taiwan, especially from high mountain regions like Alishan and Nantou, this tea is made from the Jin Xuan cultivar (also called Golden Lily), which was specifically developed to enhance its rich, milky characteristics without any added flavouring. The leaves are rolled into tight, dark green balls that slowly unfurl during brewing, releasing a silky, full-bodied infusion with a lingering sweetness.
While some commercial versions of Milk Oolong are artificially scented with milk flavouring to intensify the creamy taste, our high-quality authentic Milk Oolong delivers these notes naturally through its terroir and processing. It’s a favourite among tea drinkers for its gentle complexity and ability to be steeped multiple times, with each infusion revealing new layers of taste.
Jin Xuan Milk Oolong is less oxidized than darker oolongs, therefore it tends to be gentler on the stomach, with a softer flavour that’s more approachable, making it a good choice for beginners or those sensitive to stronger teas.
Milk Oolong tea does contain caffeine, but the amount is moderate. It typically falls between 30–50 mg per cup, depending on leaf amount, water temp, and steeping time.

How to Prepare Milk Oolong Tea
Add 1 teaspoon (2–3g) of Jin Xuan loose leaf oolong tea to a 240ml cup, then pour in water heated to just below boiling (85–90°C / 185–194°F). Steep for 2–3 minutes for the first infusion. These high-quality leaves can be re-steeped 3-5 times - just increase the steeping time by about 30 seconds with each additional brew.
