Weight loss exercise could bolster emotional resilience

Weight loss exercise could bolster emotional resilienceStarting a weight loss exercise regime could do more than simply help you shed those excess pounds – it could improve your emotional wellbeing as well.

According to the International Stress Management Association (ISMA) UK, taking regular exercise can help maintain the balance of the body's "emotional chemicals".

Ann McCracken, chair of ISMA UK, said that keeping active is the cornerstone of a healthy body, but it also makes people more able to react confidently and effectively to difficult challenging situations.

Ms McCracken also highlighted the importance of a healthy diet, offering some diet tips to those wanting to take control of their stress levels.

"Eating starchy foods such as rice and pasta, with plenty of fruit and vegetables, some protein-rich foods such as meat, fish and lentils and some milk and dairy foods … nourishes the cells in the body allowing all organs and functions to work better," she concluded.

Recently, Dr Pam Spurr claimed that seasonal affective disorder can be combated with the help of a healthy diet and frequent exercise.
