Walking: The trick to weight loss
The trick to losing weight is walking a lot, according to actress Valerie Bertinelli, who famously lost 40 pounds on the Jenny Craig programme.
Valerie, 49, explained to People magazine that on her recent ten-day holiday to Italy she ate whatever she wanted but burnt off a lot of the calories by walking 85 miles.
“The smallest number of steps we took in a day was 11,000. We never caught a cab,” she told the magazine.
The sitcom actress used a pedometer to record how many steps she was taking but admitted that she is still not properly prepared for the marathon she is set to run on April 19th.
She went on to say that she ran 14-and-a-half miles before her holiday and felt no aches and pains afterwards, so she feels her body will be able to do the full 26 miles after a bit more training.
The NHS recommends walking as a good exercise and it asserts that doing 10,000 steps a day – about 8 km – can help to keep the heart healthy and reduce body fat.
