The 3 day diet dates back to 1985 and it promises fast weight loss, it would lower cholesterol, cleanse the body and bring up energy levels. Despite there being no diet book it fails to substantiate the science behind the ‘unique metabolic reaction’. This diet plan is often regularly mistaken for a diet plan called ‘The Cleveland Clinic Diet’ which is a plan that needs to be followed accordingly for three days at a time then followed by normal eating for four or five days before going back on the diet plan again for another 3 days. It was refined for people who needed to lose a vast amount of weight, this diet has also be said to have prepared patients for heart surgery.

The 3 day diet is a very precise food pattern that needs to be followed accurately. Portions must be eaten strictly as detailed and the dieters are advised not to over-eat, otherwise the 10 pound weight loss which is mentioned may not be accomplished, although people who are on the diet should not under eat even if they are not hungry. This diet plan has no mention of exercise or any recommendation. Although the majority of the weight that is lost is due to fluid loss and not the more preferrable loss of fat. To acquire the recommended loss, exercise is not quoted in the plan.

The 3 day diet subsists of normal foods that can be found in your kitchen. There is no need to go out and buy fancy ingredients or recipes or even frozen diet meals. The basis of the diet is Cottage cheese, crackers, carrots and apples and so on. After the three days on the diet plan you can return to eating your normal meals but not overeat. Then after four days of normal eating you can continue with the diet plan again. This diet is vastly low in calories by doing this diet plan you are not harming your body in anyway because you are eating healthy fruits and vegetables and also lean meats. The only downside to the diet is you might only lose a couple of pounds after doing this diet. Not the ten pounds that some dieters claim. This diet should only be used for three days. Another downside to this diet is you will feel very hungry as the meals that you have are only just small portions. If you can soldier on through with it and say ‘well it’s only for three days’ you will survive, but if you don’t think you can cope with it, you are more likely to give in and just want to eat more.

Overall the 3 day diet does work. The large people who have tried this are the ones that have lost 10 pounds, people are most likely to lose between 3 to 6 pounds and the weight will be lost from the water in the body. If you are going to a wedding or a special occasion and want to drop a few pounds then it is well worth doing. If extended any longer than three days then it just won’t work!!

The Diet-

Breakfast

  • 5 ‘Snax’ biscuits (dry crackers)
  • 1 Slice of Cheddar Cheese
  • 1 Small Apple
  • 1 Cup of Black Tea/Coffee or Water

Lunch

  • 1 Boiled egg
  • 1 slice of dry toast
  • 1 Cup of Black Tea/Coffee or Water

Dinner

  • 1 Cup of Tuna
  • 1 Cup of Beetroot
  • 1 Cup of Cauliflower
  • 1/2 Melon
  • 1/2 Cup of Diet Vanilla Ice-Cream
  • 1 Cup of Black Tea/Coffee or Water

This diet is a very low calorie diet (approx 700 calories per day), and is often only used for a few days. It is unsustainable. The meal plan should not be undertaken for any length of time without medical supervision.
