Strict diets ‘not best way to lose weight after pregnancy’

Strict diets 'not best way to lose weight after pregnancyWomen have been advised that strict diets are not the best way to achieve weight loss goals following a pregnancy, particularly because of breastfeeding and caring for an infant.

Dr Joanna Helcke, wellness consultant and founder of Zest4lifeUK, explained that a diet approach to losing weight is likely to be unsustainable and people should instead opt to do exercises involving abdominal work, interval training and resistance work to build up muscle and help the body burn calories.

She went on to add that nutritional intake must be healthy and balanced, with the right kinds of fat, carbs, protein, vegetables, fruit and dairy combined with appropriate exercise in order to see baby weight drop off at a healthy and steady rate.

Jogging could be one way women choose to lose weight after having a baby, much like actress Natalie Portman. She has been seen out and about with fiance Benjamin Millepied pounding the pavement since giving birth a couple of months ago.
