Slim celeb mums ‘make 59% of women feel pressure to lose baby weight’

Celebrity mums who slim down to their pre-pregnancy figures in record time make 59 per cent of women feel under pressure to lose their baby weight quickly, a survey has revealed.

The research, conducted by the Royal College of Midwives and Netmums, involved 6,226 mothers.

They were asked about their experiences of weight management and 3,576 of them said that celebrity culture put more pressure on them to lose their post-pregnancy weight quickly.

Some 61 per cent of those surveyed said that, during their first antenatal appointment, they felt their midwife did not have enough time to discuss their weight management and nutrition concerns.

Sally Russell, co-founder of Netmums said: “During pregnancy, with the big changes in body shape and weight, plus an increased interest in health generally, women overwhelmingly feel they wanted to have the chance to discuss these matters with a healthcare professional.”

Back in September the Bracknell and Ascot Times reported that 35-year-old Bethn Lewis had created a special fitness class in Bracknell, near Reading, to help women with weight loss after pregnancy.
