Regular use of special websites ‘helps maintain weight loss’
A study has revealed how to lose weight and keep it off – regularly log on to weight management websites.
Scientists from the Kaiser Permanente Center for Health Research conducted a study involving 348 participants.
They found that those who logged on to websites and recorded their weight at least once a month over the two-and-a-half-year study maintained the most weight loss.
“Consistency and accountability are essential in any weight maintenance program. The unique part of this intervention was that it was available on the internet, whenever and wherever people wanted to use it,” lead author of the study Dr Kristine Funk explained.
However, people should make sure that they do not spend too much time on the internet, as a separate study recently suggested that this can impede weight loss.
The researchers, from the University of Copenhagen, found that people who were asked to do a computer task went on to eat an extra 230 calories from a buffet than those who had relaxed prior to the meal.
