People ‘need to be more aware of the need to lose weight’
Going on and maintaining a weight loss regime is rarely easy, but in the long term it really often pays off.
We live in an environment that promotes obesity, with modern technology and our current diets often making slimming down difficult, according to Dr David Haslam, GP and chair of the National Obesity Forum.
“If we eat what is put in front of us and use technology as it is intended to be used, we put on weight,” he said.
There is a need to raise awareness of the dangers of obesity and the health conditions it can cause, Dr Haslam noted, in a bid to encourage people to lose weight.
For example, the expert said being obese is linked with a higher risk of diabetes, cancer, liver disease and heart conditions.
Writing for the Galway Advertiser, Grace Joyce, a weight loss expert, recently noted that a combination of a healthy diet and exercise is the best way to shift those extra pounds.
