Office workers ‘can control their weight through regular exercise breaks’
Those who spend their working day sat at a desk can lose weight by taking exercise breaks, the National Obesity Forum has claimed.
Tam Fry, spokesperson for the forum, suggested that the best time to exercise is in the morning, before work.
He said that this, along with a “sensible” breakfast, will perk a person up and give them energy for the day ahead.
His comments follow the recent publication of research in the British Journal of Sport Medicine, which revealed that office workers are more likely to suffer weight-related health problems, such as diabetes and high blood pressure, due to the sedentary nature of their jobs.
Mr Fry suggested that these people should take part in “bursts” of physical activity during the day.
“It needs to be once around the block or once around the office or up and down the stairwell,” he said, adding that this kind of calorie expenditure, over the course of time, adds up and helps people to lose weight.
