Low-glycaemic diet ‘is good for young people’

Low-glycaemic diet 'is good for young people'Diets including foods that have a low glycaemic index are good for young people, as well as those trying to lose weight, an expert has claimed.

Tam Fry, National Obesity Forum board member and chair for the Child Growth Foundation, said that high-glycaemic foods, such as chips that have been fried in bad fats, are the foods that are the worst for people's health.

A low-glycaemic diet includes "fruit, vegetables, pulses and foods which are not high in fat, salt and sugar", he explained.

Mr Fry went on to suggest that food labels need to be improved if people are to eat healthily.

He said that, currently, these labels are too complicated and are preventing people from making healthy food choices.

Back in April, researchers from Milan, Italy, discovered that foods with a high glycaemic index are associated with the risk of coronary heart disease in women.
