Losing weight ‘reduces headaches’

Losing weight 'reduces headaches'If people with a high body mass index lose weight then the number of headaches that they experience will fall, a study has suggested.

Some 5,847 students aged from 13 to 18 were involved in the study, which looked at the relationship between negative lifestyle factors and headaches.

Overweight teens were 40 per cent more likely to have frequent headaches than those with no negative factors, the results showed.

Those who exercised less than twice a week were 20 per cent more likely to have regular headaches than those who exercised at least this often and had no other negative factors.

Dr Andrew Hershey, from the University of Cincinnati's College of Medicine, wrote an editorial accompanying the study.

"This study is a vital step toward a better understanding of lifestyle factors and potential preventive measures that can be taken," he stated.

Earlier this year, a health feature for the Daily Express claimed that cycling and Pilates can help to reduce headaches, as well as aiding people in their mission to lose weight and keep it off.
