Fast food and coffee: A dangerous combo

Those fighting the urge to abandon their diets should make sure they steer clear of coffee if they do end up heading to the takeaway, a study has claimed.

Researchers from the University of Guelph in Canada found that a healthy person’s blood sugar levels spike after eating a high-fat meal.

They also found that this spike doubles if people eat a fatty meal and then have a caffeinated coffee.

This combination causes blood sugar to jump to levels similar to those in people who are at risk of developing diabetes.

Researcher Marie-Soleil Beaudoin said: “The results tell us that saturated fat interferes with the body’s ability to clear sugars from the blood and, when combined with caffeinated coffee, the impact can be even worse.”

She went on to say sugar that remains in the blood for long periods can take a toll on the body’s organs.

DaVita Dialysis dietician Amanda Powell recently told righton.patch.com that fast food not only scuppers people’s weight loss plans, but causes a lot of kidney problems.
