Expert warns against ‘yo-yo dieting’

Yo-Yo dieting on juices can harm the bodyWomen keen to lose weight fast have been warned to avoid yo-yo dieting, because it has a detrimental effect on the body.

Celebrity trainer Tracy Anderson said yo-yoing is a "disaster" for the body and tends to wreak havoc on people's metabolic rates.

Speaking to the Irish Independent, Ms Anderson, whose celebrity clientele includes Naomi Campbell, Jennifer Lopez and Gwyneth Paltrow, stressed that it is very important for people to eat highly nutritious foods in "consumable quantities".

She also dissuaded women from embarking on fad diets such as "juice cleanses", where women only drink juice for a week to lose a few pounds then go back to eating normally only to regain the weight before going back to liquids again.

Ms Anderson maintained that such dieting methods aimed at rapid weight loss are extremely unhealthy.

Dr David Baer, research leader for the USDA's Agricultural Research Service, recently revealed that whey protein can be very beneficial for those trying to lose weight.
