Ease yourself into 2012 weight loss routines, expert advises
People who have overindulged over the Christmas season should ease themselves into their new year’s weight loss resolutions, one expert has said.
Nutritional therapist Charlotte Watts said that people should avoid going “from A to Z too quickly”, but should take gradual steps in the right direction.
“If you’ve been really ploughing in the sugar and really overindulging over Christmas – then you don’t want to be suddenly going from that stage to something really austere and too much,” she explained.
She advises that would-be dieters start by trying to balance their blood sugar by making sure they get their fill of protein at each meal and also eat plenty of vegetables.
Detoxifying routines that go ahead too quickly can be harmful, she notes, especially if liver function is not optimal at the beginning.
Liver pathways are not set up for sudden change, and quick detoxifying can cause a toxic backlog which then circulates in the blood stream and makes people feel “really bad”.
