Drug lorcaserin ’causes weight loss’

Drug lorcaserin 'causes weight loss'The drug lorcaserin causes significant weight loss in obese and overweight patients with type 2 diabetes, the results from a recent clinical trial have shown.

After a year of taking the drug, which could well become the new most desirable diet pill, the proportion of patients who lose at least five per cent of their baseline body weight was 37.5 per cent.

This is more than double the number of people who achieved this while taking placebo tablets.

Patients treated with 10 mg lorcaserin tablets achieved an average weight loss of 4.5 percent, compared to 1.5 per cent for those on the placebo.

Also, at week 52 of the study, 16.3 per cent of patients on lorcaserin achieved at least ten per cent weight loss, compared to 4.4 per cent of patients taking placebo.

Earlier in the year, the Coventry Telegraph reported that Gail Porter had lost a stone in weight with the help of diet pills.
