Dinner time tipple ‘ruining weight loss diet’

Dinner time tipple 'ruining weight loss diet'Despite focusing on a weight loss diet, many Brits are throwing away all their good efforts because they are unaware of how many calories are in their favourite drinks, according to new research.

The study by Drinkaware found that 45 per cent of UK consumers are trying to lose weight, yet many do not see the connection between weight gain and alcohol.

Three in ten of the 2,000 people questioned are planning to monitor their calorie intake over the next month, yet just 11 per cent plan to tackle how much they drink.

Less than a third of adults knew how many calories were in a 175 ml glass of wine – 134.

"While they might make healthy lifestyle choices in other areas of their life, they might not know that sharing a bottle of wine with their partner exceeds the daily unit guidelines and is the equivalent of eating a slice of cheesecake," advised Chris Sorek, chief executive of Drinkaware.

Recently, Nigel Denby, of Grub4life, said that people can lose weight fast if they cut down on the amount of alcohol that they drink and reduce their portion sizes.
