Dandelion root ‘relieves bloating’

Women who suffer from bloating may need to change their diet, but dandelion root can ease the discomfort, according to a medical expert.

Dr Sarah Brewer, a GP from Guernsey, told the Telegraph that there are many causes of bloating, which means there are many solutions.

“Mild diuretics such as dandelion root can help,” said Dr Brewer.

“I also recommend that sufferers eat more fibre and drink more water. A supplement of magnesium is also very helpful for a sluggish bowel,” she added.

One of the most common causes of bloating is overeating but, in some people, an inadequate amount of bile is being released into their stomachs, meaning that it is difficult for them to digest fatty food.

For this cause, Dr Brewer recommends artichoke extract, as this can help the body to produce more bile.

Dandelion root is an ingredient in some weight loss pills, such as Adios, which aids slimming by acting on the body’s metabolism.
