Cycling to lose weight ‘is beneficial in all kinds of ways’
People who choose to do cycling as a way to lose weight may find that it benefits them in all kinds of ways.
Jean Mowbray from Cycle Training UK explained that riding a bike can be done in an intense way or a more sedate fashion, depending on fitness and personal preference.
She said the benefits include a workout for the heart and lungs, more muscles being created and extra fat being burnt, as well as the potential for anxiety and depression to be reduced.
"Basically cycling ticks all the boxes – it can be as intense or sedate as you want. You can burn the fat scaling mountains or chew the fat cycling casually with friends," the expert remarked.
A new study from the European Society of Cardiology found that women who regularly get on their bikes to ride intensely could live 3.9 years longer than those who do not.
