Average Brit ‘consumes over 4,000 calories on Xmas day’

The festive period is notoriously hellish for those trying to lose weight, and recent research has revealed that the average Brit consumes more than 4,000 calories on Christmas Day alone.

Conducted by MyVoucherCodes.co.uk, the research found that the average person eats 1,000 calories in their Christmas dinner.

The majority of those surveyed admitted to having second helpings of dinner too.

On top of this, an average of 10.3 variety box chocolates are consumed, along with 6.2 biscuits and 3.8 glasses of wine.

Mark Pearson, chairman of MyVoucherCodes.co.uk, said that people should feel free to treat themselves over Christmas but should not over-indulge too much.

"Too much alcohol and sweet treats can cause a festive over-hang that takes more than a few days to get rid of," he added.

Last week, a spokeswoman for the British Dietetic Association Anna Raymond said that dieters need to be strict with themselves over the Christmas period to make sure they stick to their weight loss plans.
