Aerobic exercise ‘prevents insomnia’

Aerobic exercise 'prevents insomnia'Regular aerobic exercise is extremely useful to those trying to lose weight and keep it off, but a new study has shown it also helps insomnia sufferers to sleep.

Researchers at Northwestern University found that this form of exercise also makes people feel more vitalised and in a better mood.

Senior author of the paper Dr Phyllis Zee, director of the Sleep Disorders Center at the university, explained that insomnia worsens with age.

Dr Zee said that improving a person's sleep can improve their physical and mental health and she said that this can be achieved through regular physical activity.

"Exercise is good for metabolism, weight management and cardiovascular health and now it's good for sleep," Dr Zee concluded.

Back in July, researchers from the University of Grenoble Medical School in France found that it is safe for those suffering from rheumatoid arthritis to take part in aerobic exercise.
