A good night’s sleep ‘helps with weight loss’
Getting a good night’s sleep can help those trying to lose weight to achieve their goals, a study has suggested.
Researchers from the European Centre for Taste Sciences in Dijon, France, found that normal-weight young men who did not get a good night’s sleep gained more weight than those who slept well.
Participants in the study ate 22 per cent more calories after the short night of sleep compared to a night when they got ample rest.
Dr Laurent Brondel and his researcher colleagues wrote in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition: “Sleep restriction could be one of the environmental factors that contribute to the obesity epidemic.”
Those hoping to lose weight fast could also try taking a diet pill that has been proven to significantly reduce caloric intake.
Researchers at the University of Liverpool found that Zotrim – a formulation of the plant extracts yerba mate, guarana and damiana – helped dieters to eat 18% fewer calories.
